The Sunrise Mountain girl’s track and field team finished in fifth place with 55 points, of 16 teams at the Western Invitational on Saturday.

“It went really great,” said senior Dalayna Bolin. “I think a lot of people underestimated Sunrise Mountain. We will be going to state and we will be taking that first place home.”

Junior Kapua Polotv placed first in the shot put, 37’ 10.5’’ and second place in discus, 114’ 2’’. Naomi Ramirez-Rios placed fifth in the 3200-meter run. Bolin placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and Freshman Aiyanna Ramirez placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

“Placing fifth, I would say there’s room for improvement,” said Bolin. “It shows us where we could be and where we want to be. We could work harder that way we can keep up with the 4A schools.”
