The Sunrise Mountain boys volleyball team loss to Tech Tuesday, 34-32, 17-25, 12-25, 25-23, and 12-15.

“It was ecstatic,” said senior Diego Ayon. “The vibes were high. It was crazy, we went to five sets, and we’ve never gotten that far before.”

The Miners started off strong as they won their first set but fell short the next two sets as they tried to keep up with the intensity of Tech.

“We were good at first,” said junior Mathew Glenn. “Then all of a sudden we just started messing up and missing the ball.”

Since they had won their first set, they were able to play one more set, which came very close but they were able to win.

“We had kind of run out of energy but we started working harder,” senior Da’Shaun Arthur said. “We lost our energy the third set but we came back and started passing and we had a couple kills that saved us.”

The Miners struck out, and went to a fifth set which was the first to happen this season.

“It was really exciting,” said Ayon. “With the points being so close and everyone doing so good. It was a really fun night.”

Tech took the win though in another close game, and the Miners went home with a loss, but it didn’t negatively affect them.

“We’re still a really good team,” Glenn pointed out. “It was a close game, I had something around six kills and three blocks and my team mates did well too.”

Senior Emerald Acasili had 11 kills and 22 digs, junior Elijah Bright had 23 digs and senior Nick Ayon had 4 kills and 4 digs.

“This season has brought us closer together,” said Ayon. “We’re like brothers. On the bus it’s always fun and games.”

The Miners take on Chaparral Thursday for an eventful home game.
