The Sunrise Mountain boys’ volleyball team lost Tuesday to Mojave 13-25, 15-25, 14-25. This was their fourth to last game before the 3A regional playoffs.

“It was a weak day for us,” said senior Da’Shaun Arthur. “Based on how we played the energy of the game was off.”

The Miners have played very aggressive this year and have said quite often this season has been the best growth wise but competitively there needs to be improvement.

“We should work on being consistent the whole game,” senior Emerald Acasili said. “Whenever we lose, it’s hard to get back into the game because we lose confidence but we need to get back into the game and fix out mistakes right away.”

It was as if the Miners couldn’t keep up with Mojave as they won each set. The second set was the closest.

“No one wanted to play,” said senior De’Shaun Arthur. “We had no energy, we barely wanted to talk. Next time we need to get better passes, and have better covers as well.”

They also believe that a little less cockiness will improve their next game as well.

“When we have confidence and we win one set, we think we’re going to win the next one too,” said Acasili. “We celebrate too early and I don’t like that, because we should celebrate after we finish so we don’t play so sloppy.”

The outlook for the rest of the season is still positive despite the recent loss.

“I hope we get past the second round in playoffs,” De’Shaun Arthur said.

“We’re getting better and improving,” said Acasili. “And next year I have this feeling that they will dominate. I’m watching junior varsity and they’re good to me. I think every next generation does better.”
