The Sunrise Mountain football team crushed Rancho High School at home in their annual Homecoming Game, 36-7.

While the Miners now possess a 2-5 record, they evened their record in the Class 3A Sunrise League with the victory. With just five teams in their conference and four playoff spots, the victory over Rancho is even more significant as it means that Sunrise Mountain is likely to return to the playoffs this year.

Senior quarterback Tyree Hayes ran for two touchdowns and threw for another Friday as he threw for 113 yards, while running for another 47. Running back Link Rhodes added 86 yards rushing, including a 59-yard run. Sophomore Markus Gibb rushed for 33 yards and a 20-yard touchdown.

“It was easy,” Gibb said. “It was more like everyone’s heart was in the same place and we got it done.”

Sunrise Mountain will put it on the line next when they travel to Virgin Valley H.S on Friday Oct. 12, 2018.

Gibb added that the Oct. 12 game will not be easy, because they will set their record for Virgin Valley.

“It’s not going to be easy at all, but if we have everyone come to practice and we stay focused, we will have a big chance to beat them,” Gibb said. “We have a great team. We just have to be in the same place and have the same mindset.”
