The boys soccer team suffered a rare loss Saturday, falling to Western 3-2 at Bettye Wilson Park. While the Miners failed to capture the region title, all hope isn’t lost as the team had already qualified for the state tournament after Thursday’s 5-0 shutout of Valley High School in the semifinals.

The next game for Sunrise Mountain is on Friday, Nov. 9th against North Valleys High School from Reno, Nevada at Bettye Wilson Park at 4 p.m. If the team triumphs, it will face the winner between Sparks High School from Reno and Western in the state championship game on Saturday.

Sunrise started slow as Western jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half Western. However, the Miners stepped up their game in the second half on goals from seniors Jonzo Jimenez and Angel Arreola, but failed to even the game.

It was quite a different game from Thursday’s shutout over Valley. It was a complete shutdown as no goals were scored on Sunrise, the Miners scored two goals in the first half and in the second half they scored another three goals.

Three players scored in this game which led them to victory. Jimenez, Luis Luna and Arreola all scored goals this game.
