The boys’ soccer team fell short of a second-straight state title as they lost 2-1 against North Valleys in the Class 3A State semifinals, Friday evening at Bettye Wilson soccer complex.

“I’m upset because I know this is a game we should have won,” stated senior Luis Luna “We were dominating the entire first half but we just couldn’t convert on our opportunities.”

Senior Jonzo Jimenez won the Golden Boot and Offensive player of the year Class 3A Southern Region.

“It was a heart game,” said senior striker Angel Arreola. “As much as we wanted it, it seemed as if they wanted it more.”

Arreola won Player of the Year for 3A Southern Region. Arreola led the team in scoring, finishing the season with 35 goals and 22 assists, good for fourth in 3A Southern Region.

The Miner’s offense was rolling all season long.

They had three of the top five scorers in the 3A Sunrise league. Arreola, Jimenez (30 goals) and Luna (15 goals).
