The Miner’s women’s team rolled over the Warriors of Western, 53-28, Tuesday evening at their home opener.

Freshman standout Markaila McCurdy pitched in 29 points. McCurdy alone had more points than the entire Western team.  She also went for 12 rebounds in the 25-point Miner victory.

“As the leader of the team I try to stay focus and make good decisions on the court,” said McCurdy. “I want to get better chemistry with my teammates.”

The Miner’s started off rough as they were only up 8-6 after the first eight minutes of play. They stormed back, however, and scored 32 points combined in their second and third quarters, taking a huge lead by the fourth quarter, 41-16.

Senior guard Trinity Lavoll contributed in the Miners win with four points and 10 rebounds.

One team’s biggest goal is making it the NIAA state playoffs, furthermore to state as they strongly believe they have a real opportunity this year.

“Everybody is more dedicated with the same mindset which is state, they’re all working 10 times harder than last year,” said Lavoll.
