Despite losing most of their team from last year’s Southern Region playoff team, the Sunrise Mountain boys basketball team picked up their first win of the year Tuesday with a 36-34 victory over Western.

It’s a great start for the Miners, who got 22 points from senior Tyree Hayes, while senior Moises Garcia ended the match with eight points

“I look to score a lot of points for the team and myself” says senior Hayes. “It’s good I’m able to produce for my team but I’d always want my stats to but up there.”

The team started slow out of the gate, trailing 11-3 after the first quarter and 20-11 at the half. However, Sunrise Mountain stormed back in the second half, outscoring Western 25-14 to escape with the win.
