Boys Basketball Splits Week With SLAM, Eldorado

The Sunrise Mountain boys basketball team faced off against SLAM Academy and Eldorado on Jan. 22-24. The Miners split the two games, beating SLAM 82-61, but falling to non-league Eldorado, 81-67.

Kicking off the week the Miners played here on the mountain against SLAM Academy and started off the game strong with 23 points in the first quarter.

At halftime the Miners were leading by 11 point and heading into the fourth quarter, Sunrise found itself up by 13 points, eventually winning by 21 points.

Junior Dai’Quan Sykes led the team with 17 points. Junior Kaidence Young added 13. Seniors Cy Wan Jeffries and Kory Graham each had 10 points.

The second game of the week was against Eldorado, which proved to be a tough one for the Miners since they ended up losing this game. However, the loss does not affect Sunrise Mountain’s position in the standings since they were an out-of-league game.

“This game was not what we were expecting we need to play better defense and need to focus on the next game,” said Joseph.

Joseph led t he team with 15 points. Senior Miguel Cruz added 13 points, while Graham and senior Link Rhodes each contributed 10.
