State Champion Soccer Coach Set To Leave Sunrise Mountain

The boys soccer team has been one of the only sports that has won a state championship along with the boys’ track and field squad.

Unfortunately for Miner soccer players, the coach who made that possible will be leaving this school year. Coach Mohrbacher is moving out of state from Sunrise Mountain after four historic years as a coach.

During his first year as a coach, he won the state championship in the year 2017/2018. He accomplished one of his goals in the first year of coaching.

He has taken the boys soccer team to the playoffs since that year as well as having the team be one of the top programs in the state.

“It is time for me to move on from Sunrise and CCSD,” said coach Mohrbacher. “All good things must come to an end, and coaching the boys soccer program was one of the better experiences of my life. Winning the state title was very special, but for me, seeing some of the boys grow up and getting to know them as people has been much better for me.

“I am so proud of what they accomplished and this fall they will be very, very good. I think they have the talent to win another title. I will be watching from afar and hopefully I can come watch them play in the playoffs. My plans are to continue coaching in Texas, and I know I will make great memories there as well. Yet, there is nothing like your first and Sunrise will hold a special place for me.”

Coach Mohrbacher will continue his coaching career in Texas. Many of his players will miss, because they shared many memories together.

“Coach will be moving on this summer, ” said athletic director, Mr. Morales. “It’s a big loss for Sunrise Mountain to lose such a great coach and teacher. Coach Mohrbacher led by example with passion and hard work, his dedication over the years to the soccer program was second to none! We will alway be grateful for the time, commitment and dedication.

“He brought us our first soccer championship which has set the standard for the future of all programs. When you lose someone who is trusted and respected throughout the campus it is a sad day for everyone and whoever is the next soccer coach will have big shoes to fill. We do not have anyone in mind and are looking at all applicants to fill this position to continue what Coach Mohrbacher has built.”

Mohrbacher has accomplished many things at Sunrise Mountain High School, and will be missed by his students as well as the staff.
